Sculpture Park in Dorset

After a super Spring day spent at Sculpture by the Lakes, 10 miles from our Wareham B&B, I felt inspired to write a blog about this award-winning sculpture park in Dorset.

It is home to over 30 sculptures, within 26 acres of beautiful countryside, created by renowned sculptor Simon Gudgeon.

Bird of Happiness at the sculpture park in DorsetSimon and his wife Monique have created a unique space to uplift and inspire, “Sculpture must, above all, be a thing of beauty: it must uplift the spirit and enhance its surroundings.” (quote by artist Simon Gudgeon)

Throughout the sculpture park in Dorset there is plenty of seating, some of which is sculptured by Simon himself.

My mother and I were drawn to the seating to soak up the tranquillity.

To embrace the sound of nature all around us on a relatively mid-March windy day, was truly uplifting. The oversized wind chime within the trees added to the sensation and a memory which I have certainly taken away with me.

Viewing Sculpture by the Lakes website, it appears that they cater for a range of appetites, freshly prepared from their own kitchen garden.

(December 2022 – An update on this blog. The cafe/restaurant as well as the Store, selling unique items, the Pantry selling local produce and The Gallery exhibiting international and local art, are all part of what is known as ‘The Makers Yard’. The ‘Makers Yard’ does not require a ticket).

Throughout the year they hold special events, including exhibitions from other renowned sculpture artists, as well as Wellbeing by the Lakes, a five-day festival in September.

Overall, it is a truly magical place where I felt total harmony and relaxation. I would certainly recommend a visit here when staying at our bed and breakfast in Wareham.
