5 Top Tourist Attractions in Dorset within 10 miles

Spurwing Guest House, offering b&b accommodation in Wareham, is ideally located for visiting some of the best tourist attractions in Dorset. Based on our guest reviews here are our top 5.

1. Monkey World (7 miles away)

This Dorset tourist attraction is an easy drive from us. Many of our guests return to Monkey World to visit primates which they have sponsored. It has over 250 primates within its 65-acre sanctuary. It was set up in 1987 by Jim Cronin to provide refuse for Spanish, beach chimps with a permanent, stable home. They do a remarkable job of rescuing and rehabilitating primates from all over the world.

Please refer to our blog ‘Monkey World near our Wareham B&B’ for more information.

2. Swanage Beach (10 miles away) and Swanage Steam Railway (4 miles away)

Swanage Swanage has always been our favourite beach destination. For our family summer holidays, before moving to Dorset, we chose to stay in accommodation near Wareham and we loved taking the steam train from Norden to Swanage. Crab fishing was a favourite pass time, and of course the delicious Purbeck ice cream!

Please refer to our blog ‘The bus from Wareham Station to Swanage’ for more ideas.

3. Corfe Castle (5 miles away)

Corfe Castle is unmissable! It is a majestic Norman castle damaged during the Civil War. It will sure take your breath away as you approach it from the road, or when you pass by it on the Swanage steam train. It is protected by the National Trust, so likewise with many other Dorset National Trust attractions, it is well worth becoming a member.

4. Bovington Tank Museum (7 miles away)

This popular Dorset tourist attraction features the world’s finest collection of tanks. Our guests frequently comment on the museum being packed full of historical information which could easily fill a day, even for the non-history buffs!

5. Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove (10 miles away)

Durdle Door is one of Dorset’s most photographed and iconic landmarks. It is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Lulworth Cove is popular for its beautiful white pebble beach and blue water. Be sure to get there early for either of these stunning attractions, especially in the summertime.
