A Four-night Stay at our Wareham B&B

In Summer 2022, the average duration of time that guests stayed with us at our Wareham bed and breakfast, was for four nights. A four-night stay at our Wareham B&B equates to three whole days sightseeing!

If you were thinking of booking with us, we have compiled an optional four-night itinerary for your stay. Depending on personal choice however, you may want to swop the days around of course.

Saxon Walls of Wareham as part of a four-night stay at our Wareham B&BDay 1 – Saxon Walls of Wareham and a 4×4 Tour with Purbeck Safari

It comes as no surprise that Wareham attracts thousands of visitors each year. It is a preferred Dorset holiday destination with something for everyone!

Wareham is known as the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck, situated on the River Frome six miles southwest of Poole.

It is a pretty, riverside town with fascinating history dating right back to ancient Saxon times. In fact, did you know that Wareham is one of the few remaining Saxon walled towns in England built by King Alfred the Great in 875 to defend Wareham from Viking invasion?

For this reason, as part of a four-night stay at our Wareham B&B, on the first day of your holiday, we would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the sights and sounds of our beautiful market town with a fascinating one mile walk along the Saxon Walls of Wareham.

Please click here for our blog on the ‘Saxon Walls of Wareham’ which includes directions from our guest house, and fascinating historical information too.

Another option to really get the feel of our stunning location, is to spoil yourself with a 4×4 tour with Purbeck Safari. This really is spectacular, especially being on the ridge and seeing Corfe Castle from above, as well as seeing the unmissable Jurassic coastline.

Fran is extremely knowledgeable about local history, geology and wildlife, and there are optional tours to choose between, including one which takes you to a Dorset Cider Farm!

Corfe Castle included within our four-night stay at our Wareham B&BDay 2 – Corfe Castle and a Trip to Swanage on the Steam Train

The majestic, medieval Corfe Castle built by William the Conqueror has remained an impressive part of the Purbeck landscape for nearly 1000 years.

It’s fascinating to learn about how it became a ruin and which brave lady defiantly fought to save it during the Civil War in England between 1642 – 1651.

You can read about the rise and fall of the castle in our blog ‘Corfe Castle near our Dorset B&B’.

If you are planning to explore the castle and use Corfe as a base to include a trip on the steam train to the seaside town of Swanage, then we would recommend parking at Purbeck Park in Norden (BH20 5DW).

As a different option to get to Corfe Castle and Swanage, you could also take the bus.

The bus stop, beside Wareham Train Station, is only five minutes’ walk away from our Guest House.

The bus travels up and over the roof of the Purbeck Hills and along its ridgeway, taking in stunning views all the way.

Bovington Tank MuseumDay 3 – Bovington Tank Museum or Monkey World

A popular sightseeing trip for the guests staying with us is Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World. Both tourist attractions are only 7 miles from us and open all year round.

At the Tank Museum you can admire the amazing collection of tanks, as well as walk in the footsteps of a 1st World War soldier through the front-line trenches and sit in a realistic air raid shelter with its chilling sirens and sound effects.

If tanks are not your thing, but furry apes are, then Monkey World is a sure favourite. Its official name is Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre as they do a remarkable job of rescuing and rehabilitating primates from all over the world.
