For those that we have not yet had the pleasure to meet, we are Steph and Richard. We moved from Leicester in August 2019 to manage our bed and breakfast in Dorset with our son, Steph’s mum and our cat Jessy.
Steph was previously an Early Years Teacher and Richard was a General Manager/Licensee for a number of pubs, restaurants and nightclubs.
First and foremost, the main incentive for relocating and managing a B&B was to have our own business doing what we love most…..
‘Talking’, which Richard would say about Steph (ha!) and ‘cooking and hospitality,’ which Steph would say about Richard.
A winning combination! Oh and importantly we are both very house proud!
Secondly, having had so many happy memorable summer holidays visiting family in Wareham, and enjoying the Jurassic Coast and the many tourist attractions it has to offer, it seemed the perfect location to manage our own small business in the form of a bed and breakfast in Dorset.
To be certain it was the lifestyle we were imagining, we decided to attend Karen Thorne’s B&B Academy.
This was an invaluable two-day training course which gave an honest and ‘real life’ insight on how to set up, run and market your own bed and breakfast. (Although nothing could have prepared us for changing super king duvet covers!)
Fortunately our minds were not swayed, quite the opposite, and we continued our search.
When viewing Spurwing Guest House, we were particularly drawn to the garden. We all enjoy gardening, which is a stroke of luck considering its size!
For those that have subscribed to our monthly Spurwing Newsletter or follow us on Facebook and Instagram will know how much time we have dedicated to maintaining the garden during lockdown, particularly the pond, which we tirelessly dug out to make twice as big.
So Spurwing was the one!
