3 Beaches near our Dorset B&B

Guests at our Wareham B&B occasionally ask us how far it is to the nearest beach. Here are 3 beaches near our Dorset B&B.

1. Kimmeridge Bay (8 miles)

Kimmeridge Bay, one of 3 beaches within 10 miles of our Dorset B&B

Kimmeridge Bay on Dorset’s Jurassic World Heritage Coast is not a typical bathing beach as it doesn’t have any sand. However, it is well known for its rock pooling, canoeing, wind surfing and water sports. The water visibility is excellent for snorkelers and divers.

Overlooking the beach is Clavell Tower, a Georgian folly built on the cliff edge. It’s quite a steep walk up to the folly but it is worth the effort as you are rewarded with spectacular views over the Bay.

There is a toll road which leads down to the Bay and the car park overlooks it. Toilets are located in the Slip-Way Car Park next to the Wild Seas Centre.

The Etches Collection Museum is close by and worth a visit. It is a unique, modern museum of amazing fossils dating back 157 million years ago during the age of the dinosaurs.

2. Studland Bay (10 miles)

Studland Bay, one of 3 beaches within 10 miles from our Dorset B&B

A four-mile stretch of golden sandy beach with gentle bathing waters and views of Old Harry Rocks and the Isle of Wight.

The beaches at Studland are called Shell Bay, Knoll Beach, Middle Beach and South Beach.

All are owned by the National Trust.

Shell Bay

One of our favourite beaches. The beach is at the top of Studland Peninsula. It is pretty much unspoilt and free from commercialism and a great place to relax. You won’t find loads of shops or ice cream kiosks here.

Knoll Beach

Beach facilities include a beach shop, a licensed cafe, a restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating, toilets and water sports centre. It is a lovely beach backed by sand dunes. Old Harry Rocks is a two-mile walk away from here.

postcode: BH19 3AH

Middle Beach

Of all the beaches at Studland, Middle Beach is probably the smallest. It has its own little cafe overlooking the sea.

Postcode: BH19 3AX

South Beach

Similar to Middle Beach, South Beach is smaller and quieter and has a cafe overlooking the sea.

Postcode: BH19 3AU

3. Swanage (10 miles)

Swanage Beach, one of 3 beaches within 10 miles from our Dorset B&B

Swanage is ideal for strolling, crab fishing, indulging in ice cream and fish and chips and all-round seaside fun! This resort is another of our family favourites.

Five minutes walk from our Wareham B&B, you can catch the Breezer Bus through beautiful countryside, over the Purbeck Hills, with magnificent views of Corfe Castle, and arrive in Swanage only five minutes walk to the beach.

Take a look at our blog ‘The bus from Wareham Station to Swanage’

You can also catch the Swanage Steam Train from Norden to get there!
